Sabrina Caramanico: Circus
Circus is a place where the real and the unreal collide, or at least it seems so to us. Especially when we are kids, and an acrobat floats in the air like a bird, an illusionist performs his tricks making things and people appear out of the blue and disappear into nowhere, when wild animals obey to humans. All this recalls kids’ magical reality, where there is no strict border between the possible and the impossible, life and death. We lose this type of “reality” with time and can get reconnected to it through places, objects, pictures that radiate it. Here is one.
This journey starts in the past when, as a child, I was fascinated to see the “great creature” come to life and where strange and controversial things happen inside. The Circus is a magical, mysterious and strange world where light and darkness alternate to give life to the great show. A microcosm where elusive and disturbing figures move frantically in the shade of the tent as in a daydream.
