Superultraextra: Lumen

“Lumen” is an open, ongoing photographic, multimedia series started in 2014 and most of photos were taken in Berlin.

The project has its beginning in an observation of flies swarming around a street lamp at night. In all the photos, the enviroment is the only immortal object amongst other living organisms – like a lamp amongst moths. Next to human figures, instects are an important and repeatative element of our pictures.

In this series, light exists as keynote to bring out hidden details and relative preception of time. Limited color pallete and juxtaposition of organic forms (people, insects, plants) and abstract objects (architecture, pipes) are supposed to disturb proportion between macro and micro world, longevity and short moment. Through flash burn people and insects become equal.

  • Definition of term Lumen. The lumen (symbol: lm) is the SI derived unit of luminous flux, a measure of the total “amount” of visible light emitted by a source.
