Youth / The Future – The Southeast Asian Photography Masterclass / Stage 1
The Southeast Asian Photography Masterclass Scholarship is a free photography masterclass workshop for 12 photographers between the ages of 20 to 35 native to Southeast Asia. The workshop run by Jörg Brüggemann and Tobias Kruse is based on a portfolio submission and awarded to 12 of the most deserving portfolios. The workshop is a collaboration between Obscura Festival and Ostkreuz–Photographer’s Agency and is generously supported by Goethe Institute.
A four day kick off meeting was happening in August 2016, during the next year the participants will work on a series matching the theme Youth/The Future. They are encouraged and supported to find their own photographic voice to tell a unique story. There will be online tutoring during this period and another meeting in Penang at Obscura Festival in 2017 where the accompanying book of the workshop will be published by the dienacht Publishing. We from "dienacht Magazine" will follow the development of the project, posting the results of each stage on a regular basis.
Stage 1 – After introducing ourselves and our work we went through the portfolios of each participant and edited them down to some 5 key images.
