Photobook Workshop at L'Enfant Sauvage BXL

For any photographer, the recording of images is the first part of their journey with a story. The process that begins after the camera has been put down is often more challenging. The photographer is required to reflect, to speak and even to write so that their work can have a full life.

In our Photobook Workshops, it is this life and afterlife that we will be concerned with: it is about the creation of photobooks on the one hand, as well as about rethinking the project in the context of a photobook as a specific medium, on the other hand. We work closely with the participants on the production of a dummy from their own photo projects, focusing on the analysis of the project, editing, sequencing, design and the importance and choice of materials in the production of photobooks. Photobook Workshops culminate with each participant creating a physical photobook dummy.

3-day Photobook Workshop Agenda
Every day from 10 am till 6 pm (or rather open end when necessary).

Day 1
*Talk about the medium of photobooks and materials.
Group discussion of projects + brainstorming first ideas of dummies.
- Specific h/w for every participant.

Day 2
*Talk about sequencing and editing.
One-to-one work on editing, sequencing, design, choice of materials.
One-to-one work on InDesign layout of each dummy.
- H/w to finalise the InDesign files, if necessary

Day 3
Paper shop visit: purchase of materials
Printing 
Binding
*Final group discussion of the workshop and dummies.

Workshop requirements
￫ Personal computer
￫ InDesign programme (there are free trial versions available) installed and basic knowledge of using it ()
￫ All necessary hi-res files images on your computer
￫ Printed out images (and extra materials) in small format
￫ A text about the series, can be a self-written text, but also a quote, song-lyrics, etc.
￫ The masterclass is held in English.
