Masterclass: Editing & Sequencing for photographers with dienacht Publishing

March 27—April 3, 2021
The Phooks x dienacht Publishing

For any photographer, the recording of images is the first part of their journey with a story. The process that begins after the camera has been put down is often more challenging. The photographer is required to reflect, to speak and even to write so that their work can have a full life.

In this masterclass by dienacht Publishing, it is the life and afterlife that we will be concerned with: this workshop series, comprising 2 sessions, helps photographers select, sort, and sequence their existing archives.

Session 1 will include theories and approaches to editing and sequencing photography for publishing projects, followed by a group critique session that overviews each project. Participants will be given an editing/sequencing assignment based on the work they presented.

Session 2 (1 week later) will review the edited and sequenced work, and include a collective feedback session. Workshop leaders will work closely with the participants and their photo projects, focusing on editing, sequencing of photographs for the intention of producing a publication (photobook, zine, portfolio, or other desired format).

This workshop is for you if…
– you need feedback on a specific photo project series that you intend on publishing in some format;
– you feel stuck in your project and need an outside look to find out what direction to take;
– you need advice on how to finish your project, or take it to the next level;
– you have an extensive photography archive, and you don’t know how to approach the editing/sequencing of your works;
– you have very different photo series, and need advice on how to select and/or organize them in one portfolio.
